2020 Ford Explorer Overview

Since first hitting the streets in 1991, the Ford Explorer has remained one of the most popular, family-friendly SUVs going. Upgrades and enhancements with each new model year results in an SUV that has continued to evolve and maintain allure and relevancy with more drivers. With the 2020 model, though, the Explorer broke onto new ground with its biggest redesign in nearly a decade.

Better than ever in every regard, the 2020 Ford Explorer features base trim, XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum. The Limited trim also features a hybrid version.

There is a lot of ground to cover when highlighting the new Explorer’s redesigned elements. To keep learning more, keep reading. Then, for further exploration of the new Explorer, schedule a test drive with your preferred Ford dealership, Wood Motor Ford.

Interior/Exterior Enhancements

There’s a fine line between knowing when to leave a great thing alone and when to apply enticing, innovative upgrades to a vehicle. The 2020 Ford Explorer achieved the balance with remarkable style.

For 2020, the Explorer takes on sharper lines while actually creating a bit more of a stocky appearance. Another upgrade from previous model years is a wheelbase seven inches longer.

Whether it’s a trip into the woods with friends or a family vacation across the country, the interior of the Ford Explorer and its three rows of seats holds up to seven. The second row can come with a pair of Captain’s chairs or a bench seat. Base and XLT trims come standard with quality cloth, while Platinum and ST trims feature leather.

Take advantage of over 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, a number that increases to nearly 88 cubic feet with the second row folded down. Not to interfere with space, the 2020 Ford Explorer now features a lower and more layered dash. Also, information screens have been moved up to give more eye-level visibility, allowing drivers to better keep their eyes on the road.

Big Power Translates to a Better Performing 2020 Ford Explorer

Base and XLT trims feature a 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that combines for 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. An available 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 is available on Platinum and ST trims. The Platinum generates 365 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the sportier ST trim’s Twin Turbos boost those numbers to over 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque.

The 2020 Ford Explorer utilizes a 10speed automatic, with the ST trim adding Selectshift. The Limited also features a hybrid version, which doles out 318 horsepower via a 3.3-liter V6.
